It is original, grip plate screws look messed with, this could be for two reasons, either someone removed them to look for maker marks or more likely they were damaged and replaced at some point, alot of these have chipped and cracked grips. The minor surface rust around the crossguard area would bring down the value.

I bumped this 4 year old thread to the top for a challenge to our DRK dagger collectors as of lately Im seeing some fantastic examples..and more fantastic the identity of some of these unmarked types.

    Your thoughts Gents ??

I am confident these are Klaas, I have found multiple examples of this type opened and with the Cranes. These do share features found on both the PDL and the Klaas when it comes to rundle and eagle design but the rest of the handle has features that are distinctly Klaas. I have never found an example of the round shoulder that was different than each other and have yet to find an example not in a screw scabbard.

My theory (and it is just that) is this might have been the early Klaas exclusive design and it was standardized with PDL starting to manufacture them. As I said this is just a theory. I wish I had the funds to buy a half dozen of these for comparison sakes I would like to find a frosted example of both Klaas and PDK and non frosted Klaas and a second round shoulder and then several officers since they fall into the same category. As an aside I have not find a single example of a round shouldered Officers. So much is not known about this dagger.
