This blade is etched with 'mehr sein als scheinen' (to be more than it appears/seems).
It is similar to a NPEA (youth leader) dagger.

HI Marty the answer is No ...these daggers are not unit based and it does represent the NPEA schools.
That Motto can be seen on all 3 NPEA dagger types.
Student Dagger - with plain grip no insignia and with frog and scabbard
Staff Leader - with Grip eagle insignia and with frog and scabbard
Leaders dagger - with Grip eagle insignia and chained scabbard assembly.
Can you show us photos on both sides of the blade tang ? ...I would like to confirm a specific marking for this Type 1 blade.
