I've seen a few miniaturized daggers up for sale occasionally, such as a mini SS dagger or SA daggers. They are said to be letter openers.
Are these actual period items or are they a fake fantasy item?

Some are original, and some are post war fakes or copies.

Any sources on the history behind these things?
Some good advice from Ralph. The forum has in the past had some input with some good period examples. Not one of my specialties, there are also some problematic examples out there from my recollections over time on other forums. Such as not OEM quality, but still reasonably well made PW political daggers made as TR artifacts dealer advertising. Besides some other flaws there was the matter of German laws protecting certain NSDAP items with penalties attached, which also can be a problem. Best Regards, Fred
Really need to post a photo if you are considering buying one, but many we come across are completely authentic. There was a long history in Solingen in producing miniature knives and even "kinder swords". All are very collectable and some are surprisingly expensive.
