A heads up for collectors, a US dealer is selling a new batch of Puma style fighting knives. Won't fool the experienced but could trip up a novice collector once aged with some patina. Good to remember fakes are still being made.

    Hi!
Is it the kind that does not have a manufacturer's mark?

Whether they can be called fake knives depends very much on whether the dealer is selling them as 'reproduction ' or passing them off as 'genuine'.

Alex; yes no maker mark but someone will try to add one.
Harry; Sure no dealer will advertise it as a "fake" but we know it won't be long before someone else is passing these off as original, and so will become a "fake" given time.
The production of these knives apparently to fill a need for reproductions, is in reality likely to fuel more deception of collectors wanting original examples. Given time most skillfully produced reproductions will be resold by someone down the line as authentic, so collectors need to beware.

That is where the problem lies... what starts off as a reproduction often ends up as a fake. But good reproductions do fill a gap for those who cannot afford the real thing, and nobody in their right mind would try and sell something by calling it a fake. The term 'reproduction' sounds so much better, and the price is a lot cheaper than the same item being sold as genuine!

    Hello,
I arrive a little late because I had not seen the item.
There is no doubt that this piece is fake, on the other hand there were some Puma knives, unmarked bowie blade.
They are quite rare and I have never had the opportunity to acquire one.
    Cordially.

A sheet in French which mentions that the blade is shorter and that the scabbard has a hook (double security with the clip to not lose it).
