Most of this piece seems to be period but I don't like those numbers on the scabbard throat, those concern me.

Gentlemen, what exactly confuses you in numbers? the fact that the number is etched and not stamp. or font how are the numbers written?

In regards to TeNo #1831 etched serial numbers on both blade and scabbard, it is correct for this serial range.
    Here is #1802 for comparison.

Serge, is absolutely right, this method is absolutely correct. Have
this hewer has only one oddity - the wrong hole in the scabbard. Otherwise, this is a normal hewer.

Witty offering serial #1906, exhibiting the same etched numbers and font patterns on scabbard throat.

In looking into this more, I would agree with Serge and Den. There was a small segment of TeNo hewers that had the numbers etched on both the blade and scabbard throat before they went back to stamping the numbers on the throats. This #1831 fits right into that small period and I believe it to be a period hewer with 100% correct scabbard etching.
