Napoleonic marches!
Hi,
Just to show you a certain nostalgia of the French occupation (First Empire under Napoleon).
Those marches are very popular in the "Sambre et Meuse" region in Belgium. More than 20 cities and villages have their own batalions, companies and music bands.
The uniforms are exact copies, some rifles and sabres are from that era and the marching bands are playing the music of the time. Those marches occur at Whitsunday.
The film was shot in the city where my wife is born.
Enjoy,
Luc

Are you going to Slavkov every year ? (Austerlitz)

Hi Charlie,
No, it is just religious folklore. Armed platoons were accompanying the processions of saints in the past to avoid being attacked and plundered by robbers. The uniforms are rented and only a few are personal belonging.
But some groups are going to Waterloo every year in june.

Hi Charlie,
Next video is just the participation of a few villages.
They all meet in Gerpinnes (Hainaut) for the big meeting and parade on Pentecost monday. You have sometimes 120 companies (thousands of men and women): more than 2 hours of parade. First and third French empires!
