It looks like it to me!
Ben
Carl Eickhorn did not make buckles so I doubt its their makers mark so I wonder if the claw buckle was specially made for a RAD unit only?
Ben
Hi Ben,
Since the buckle already has the Assman maker mark, I would assume it means that the buckle was for RAD.
Ralph.
Searching for anything relating to, Anton Boos, 934 Stamm. Kp. Pz. Erz. Abt. 7, 3 Kompanie, Panzer-Regiment 2, 16th Panzer-Division (My father)
Wilhelm P B R Saris and who is a Lifetime Member of the Forum, penned a superb article in the Military Advisor (sic) in Winter 2004/2005 titled Reichsarbeitsdienst Belts and Brocade Belts. This two claw buckle is described in exact detail on page 7 within the article and furthermore, with confirmation being given that wear of this official Arbeitsdienst-Koppelschloss was between early 1934 and early 1936. As we know, the die stamped aluminium RAD "box buckle" was officially introduced in 1936, although was first worn at the 1935 Party Day event.
The buckle shown, complete with the correct RAD organisation approval mark (the RAD was not an NSDAP organisation and therefore not subject to the RZM) and correct time frame date of 1935, is of course one which is not permanently fixed to the leather strap. Instead, it is loose and worn like a detachable box buckle and where the buckle frame incorporates a special recess to facilitate a buckle specific Koppelhaken which is permanently affixed to the leather strap.
Regards,
David
