    I had never heard of this. Last night I was going through 'MAUSER' Military Rifles of the World' (4th ed.)and came across this. Only a few hundred or so were made. Seems it could have been a good idea. I wonder what went wrong? You can Google it by typing in 'Mauser 98k red resin stock'. Ron

    Hi Ron, the plastic was found to be very cold to the touch in freezing conditions, as bad as touching bare metal. So this was a big disadvantage.

    These stocks have been faked in recent years.

    Thanks Ade. I wonder how close it was in comparison to today's modern synthetic stocks. It was still a good idea that just hadn't come to it's time. Ron

    Hello-similar experiments were done with SMLE III stocks pre war-bakelite was found to be prone to warping & cracking under pressure-extreme cold would make this even worse-see 'The Lee Enfield' : I Skennerton, Pg 199.

    Correct matching 98ks in resin stocks are super super rare...BILL
