On the back of TC's recent purchase, I pulled mine out and finally took some photos
TC's thread: GUNSHOW today,Enfield buy,non import 1942 info help needed
Bought this 10 years ago for $250.00. Not bad I guess. Only flaw is that it is missing the retention screw for the sliding sight when it is flipped up. They can be found. Just too lazy. If anyone knows where I can get one let me know.
I do not think I ever posted it before.
So, here is a WWII Savage (Lend-Lease) NO.4 MK1* Enfield- BRITISH CAL.303.
This is what I know. Any corrections/errors let me know.
Matching Serial # 74C1618 (except for the magazine). C stands for Chicopee Falls, Mass. British Crown above "E or H" and "39" proofs on stock behind trigger (E is for Enfield, 39 is inspector mark). Marked "US Property" on receiver top. British applied Birmingham Nitro Proof "BNP(crown)" proof on receiver ring.
No import marks
Interesting on this rifle is the yellow painted cap on the end of the stock. It is old. Was told (no proof) that this could be that it was used post war in the US as training rifle. Not sure if that is true.
