Keep them coming Santi, it's a pleasure to look at them.
Hello friends.
Two new acquisitions for the collection. I have inserted the first and second photos at the end of #20.
TABSTABS collection
On the reverse of the first is written "bei bunkerbau. Russland March 1943".
TABSTABS collection
In the second the soldiers with the axes seem to have fun, while they spend the summer preparing their bunker for the winter.
The third I have found on the net. I have inserted it as image number 4 in #27. It is a bunker on the Volchov Front, with all the comforts ...
OUTSTANDING Santi!!!
Thank you.
Those were photo's I have never seen before.

Santi thank you for a great thread.. Great story, great pictures. Respect for all that work put into creating this.
An excellent thread for sure - thank you Santi!
If I may, I could share a few related period photos from my own collection and some remains of wooden structures I've found in northern Finland
Thank you very much, Nordlicht44.
It would be great, of course you can upload all you want to the thread
In the far north conditions were harsh and therefore finding proper shelter - not only from enemy fire but also from the elements - was essential. But what to do when wood is scarce and valuable in these regions? The solution was to use what the ground itself provided.
Here are some 1943-dated photos of these stone dugouts and positions that were a common sight (if you could spot them!) in the northernmost parts of Norway and Finland.
The construction was typically reinforced and camouflaged with layers of earth - shelter halves were also useful. In the right hands these small caves could be turned into relatively cozy little "homes"... and most importantly, some were big enough for Christmas parties
Additional archive photos. Officers get fancier doors of course
