    Down south - around the Arctic Circle, that is - dense forests are naturally more common which made wood the main material of dugout structures. Wood could also be and was indeed used for all sorts of garden decorations, gorgeous benches, fences and the like.

    Here we have a group of men reading their local Lappland-Kurier magazine, presumably somewhere in Lapland.

    The drawings are from the 1944 booklet "Bildheft neuzeitlicher Stellungsbau" - the entire document can be found online if someone is interested.

    And finally, some remains I've found myself... these first examples were located inside a Flak ammunition depot area.

    Slowly rotting away.

    I just inserted these images in # 20.
    I have found the first one on the net; but the second I have bought. I think it's a fantastic image, both because of the faces of the soldiers and because you can see the carpentry work on the logs so that they fit perfectly and also the pliers in the hand of the first man.
