Orel (in Russian: Орёл)
It is a Russian city at the crossroads of roads and train tracks.
Administrative capital of the Orel Oblast.
Its population in 2010 was 317,000 inhabitants.
It is crossed by the Oká River
Located 360 kilometers southwest of Moscow.
Conquered by the Germans in October 1941, at the begining of Operation Typhoon
It was released by the Soviets during the battle of the Orel salient, in July 1943.
October 3, 1941, a panzer commander, observes with his binoculars from the turret of his tank. It is the main street of Orel: the Moscow road.
