British Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife

This knife has been passed down from my grandfather to my Dad to me. I however am not a collector, nor were they, and would hate to see it go to waste. I'm looking for help in verifying its ID and establishing a value so it can be sold to somebody who will do it justice.
From my own research it appears to be a WWII British Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. It features the following:
-"England" stamped on the crosshandle
- An arrow type stamp on the bottom of the handle
- On the top portion of the handle there is a "1" stamped
- The sheath is leather and in good condition, i.e. not brittle
I have have not attempted to clean it up or remove any tarnish as I'm not an expert in this field and don't want to screw it up.
Any help with verifying the origin and value would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Astarman , your FS knife is of ww11 era production or just after . Thousands of these were found to be surplus to requirements just after the war and were exported to the USA to help pay off our war debt ! These were all stamped with England on the crossguard . The number 1 on the grip identifies the mould from which the grip was made , and you can also see the WD arrow . I don`t know of the value but would imagine it to be between £70 - £100

This knife was made during ww2 but given to America post-war just like Alan said

Good luck selling it,Im sure it will ADLEAST get up to $100, I guess Ill stick to my reproduction knife (Yes reproductions are being made so they must be worth a little more then your average bayonet)
