I have 2 First Pattern FS knives. One knife has no motto, it came to me from a Polish Paratroop Officer so I know where this knife was last 70 plus years. The Polish Officer returned to Poland in 1946 and I always thought that somehow the motto was removed from the knife as the communist regime did not look to kindly on items like that.
However I was speaking with Tony Zawadzki couple of years ago and he told me that it was a rare knife, and it never had a motto. I contacted Roy Shadbolt and Roy confirmed it.
Now, in the Bill Walters Book there is a section by Ron Flook on FS knives, and Ron pictures one without motto.

    Very nice.

I've always wanted a real FS, ever since I got a copy in the 70's as a kid!
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Great research, such cool knives, too.
With a storied history, always the best.

Interesting positioning of the leather tabs, too.

    Thanks for sharing.

I have a couple where the motto has rubbed off, certainly not rare examples like yours.

I like the beat up ones - !
