Hey guys,
Does anyone recognise or know the origin of this strap? Its been converted to a chin strap on an M40 helmet. Don't think its German as german utility straps had a pointy end? Maybe a gas cansiter strap?
Sorry for the limited images

Thanks Adrian! Is it WW2 period British?
May be wrong but to me looks more US Army with that type of buckle
Trust me, it is Brit.

Thanks Adrian. A cross strap?
It is not a helmet strap.

Maybe something the soldier has picked up in the field to replace a broken chinstrap
More likely post war collector fiddling...
