Anyone recognise this web equipment strap?

Article about: Hey guys, Does anyone recognise or know the origin of this strap? Its been converted to a chin strap on an M40 helmet. Don't think its German as german utility straps had a pointy end? Maybe

    Hey guys,
    Does anyone recognise or know the origin of this strap? Its been converted to a chin strap on an M40 helmet. Don't think its German as german utility straps had a pointy end? Maybe a gas cansiter strap?

    It is British webbing.

    May be wrong but to me looks more US Army with that type of buckle

    Maybe something the soldier has picked up in the field to replace a broken chinstrap
