That's what I was going to say. Doesn't look like a grouping from one or two soldiers that was discovered in some family's cellar or attic. Looks like a collection that someone amassed.
In the past few years what you described has already been happening. Last year I bought a number of pieces at auction out of the collection of a deceased German collector who I actually knew personally when I lived in Germany and I have a good friend here locally that is selling off as he is getting up in age and his children have no interest.
