    Hello,
The color is pretty standard....looks like usual Feldgrau to me...
But this political/paramilitary messkit is made of the strangest leather i've seen in my collecting life...
Are you sure that JSD stands for this maker ?
    Thanks

its not Wehrmacht? Its RAD? Reichs Arbeits Dienst.
The big Words is: J.Schmalzeder/Erben in Dresden

In the 1939 RAD handbook this drawing was included
about the Kochgeschirr. The full description of this
item took about four pages. The exact sizes are being
noted, as well as the weight.
It should officially be marked at the lid, specificially
the so-called Nietblatt (see X red marking), as well as
on both sides of the Henkelösen (XX).

Marking should be as: first letter of the name for the concern
and place, as well as the year of manufacturing, which is correct
    for the shown item.
