I have never seen or even heard of this rubber case before?

How much?some sellers really do take the!!!!!!!!!regards minnie.
Well, looks like a self made item and why not - 700 euros is a pretty good price. You just need a original German gas mask can, some skills and some metal...
This was an experiment for the Kriegsmarine, exact numbers produced or given out are unknown but judging on the fact that some don't even know them very few must have been made, let alone survived this long.
I see this on WAF
One occasionally comes across items that ( because no-one else has seen one ) are dismissed almost out of hand - but, stranger things have happened. I for one once had ( no longer ) a gasmask can with NO STRAP LOOPS on it and NO internal lens holder. Because these things are spot welded on, anyone who knows about welding will know you cant remove them without tell-tale marks remaining and there were none!
Everyone I spoke to thought it was an unfinished one or a factory reject, then I heard of special runs of these made for vehicle fitment where they were held in spring clips ( much like a fire extinguisher is ) and so never needed strap loops and were quite rare ( this is of course AFTER I sold it!!!!! )
So, I for one accept Lebus' idea that these were a KM experiment - just like rubber soled shoes for aircrew and panzer so damage or slipping would not occur with hob nailed soles ( another disputed suggestion at times and in some circles )
Cheers, Dan
