German canvas bag- need a little help!

Can someone tell me what was this bag for? I am pretty much sure that it's German- buttons, belts, etc. are the same.
Unfortunately, I have only this picture.

Bread bag? It's different than a bread bag we all know. Perhaps some other kind?

Could also be a Horse gas mask carrier, these were also made of a green burlap with straps.
