The German Gamaschen (Rückzugsgamaschen ?)...1941-1945
Hello Gentlemen,
As you may know, the Marschstiefel was withdrawn from service for a certain amount of troops in 1941. These troops were then issued with the ankle boots adopted in 1937 that now had to be worn with Gamaschen (gaiters). In this thread, my proposal is to show you the different productions of these Rückzugsgamaschen (retreat gaiters) as the german soldier used to call them...
Gamaschen of the first type in brand new condition made of thick grey canvas with leather edging at the bottom. Buckles with roller are covered with the initial light grey paint.
You can just click on the photos to enlarge them

The sacrifice of life is a huge sacrifice, there is only one that is more terrible, the sacrifice of honor

Pair of transitional Gamaschen still having leather edging, but constructed in two pieces sewn together, with internal stiffener.
Being of late production, these examples do have buckles without roller and metal left unpainted.
