How do you arrange MG42 ammo belt into ammo can
I have a MG42 with a dummy receiver on it. Along with it I have a spare barrel carrier and an ammo box. I would like to load the ammo box with dummy ammo, which I have made up from fired brass, which I reinserted bullets into. You can tell they have been fired by the dimpled primers. I know the ammo box holds 250 rounds, made up of five 50 round belts. My problem is how are the belts arranged in the box. If you just lay the belts in the box, one on top of the other, they soon fall over and not lay flat. The bullet end falls between the round below it and they tilt over and do not lay flat, and as you layer up the belts they soon fall over. Was there something put between the belt layers to stop this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike

You will find this page useful: MP44.nl - German Uniforms and Equipment - Patronenkasten 34 / 41
Assembled by a forum member, I believe. It contains as much information on German ammo boxes as you could want, including the correct procedure for filling. Below is an image from the page, for the sake of ease of reference.
