    Hi Forum
I have just got this K 98 Cleaning set, the soldier or former owner has scratched his name and "Imi 276". I am lucky, can some read his complete name, and could the number be his military number or unit

    Hello Gentlemen,
This little post to remind you that this piece of german equipment was named Reinigungsgerät 34 and was not meant for the Karabiner 98k only, it was also used for the pistole P.08/P.38, for the MP 38/40, for the G41/43, for the MP 43/44 and also for MGs....Collectors called it K98k cleaning set most probably because of the takedown tool used for the Karabiner receiver...
    Thanks

I have always thought that it was only for the K98, so as you wrote it is actually for for many weapons, and it is called Reinigungsgerät 34, so I have a page where it is described well:

Shouldn't the small bottom compartment be packed with gun grease? All the kits i've seen have had grease in that compartment.

Most of the time they were, but it was not uncommon to use them for other needs - like cleaning cloths and such.
