Article about: Last weekend, I bought this messkit on flea market. Painted in black gloss paint. No marks. At a few places engraved monogram of the owner "JW". In my appearance it seems like the

    Last weekend, I bought this messkit on flea market. Painted in black gloss paint. No marks. At a few places engraved monogram of the owner "JW".
    In my appearance it seems like the creation of '43 to '44 German messkit M31. However, I fear that the post-war. I researched on the Internet, but I'm not sure.
    I ask you for your opinions.

    In the meantime, Herr Johann Wolfgang (now in his old days..) still asks himself.. "Where, in the name of god, did i loose my Messkit when i was in the army some 50 or 60 years ago ?? I never stopped wondering what happened to it or where it might be right now..."

    Looks like an original late war unmarked steel bale mess tin to me.

    A dealer in the US had a box of these still wrapped in paper that he brought back from Germany. They were sold as immediate post war examples. Feldgrau or Dunkelgelb were common equipment colors. Black was in use as well for other field gear but I am not sure about mess tins. Please, correct me if I am wrong. NH

    Yes, it is correct. Maybe, black painted mess tins was in use for paramilitary organisations , HJ or civilian workers....
    End, there are black emaled steel mess tins....
    Sorry for my bad english....
