Feldpost number ( or sometimes the soldiers service number )
" I'm putting off procrastination until next week "
As Danmark said its a Feldpost Number, which is:
Feldpostnummer 15366
(Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 1. Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 389,
(2.1.1940-27.4.1940) gestrichen, wurde Fp.Nr. 26219 B,
(15.9.1940-31.1.1941) 2. große Kraftwagenkolonne Nachschub-Kolonne Abteilung 594.
And translated:
Field post number 15366
(Mobilization-01.01.1940) 1 Company Infantry Regiment 389,
(2.1.1940-27.4.1940) deleted was Fp.Nr. 26219 B,
(15.9.1940-31.1.1941) 2. large motor convoy replenishment column 594th Division
Hope it helps

$60 is a good price.
Here is an interesting link for you, if you click onto the next page you will see the gas masks.

Thanks, yes, I use this site all the time... I mostly wondering about the white numbers...
Normally the white numbers (mostly 3) are to identify the mask and the cannister to the owner....
The gasmasks were cleaned (and
the FP number (often) is written on a piece of paper with the name and rank of the soldier, which is glued inside the cannister on the "Klarscheiben" compartment.
I will have a look in all my H.Dv.'s on Gasmasks and Equipment to see if there were any written rules for it.....

MP44.nl - Welcome to my Website
Like Tom, this is not the FP Nr, but the number of the GM in the unity, so can find it after a revision or so.
The seller said: he did not touch anything, the paint (including the white numbers) is original. I think I might go for this for 60 dollars...
