Looks like an original mag that's seen some hard use!

Is there a WaffenAmt marking on it anywhere? That'll tell you which manufacturer produced it. They're usually stamped on the spine.

it has P-38 stamped on the left bottom side, so that is a good indication that it is for a P-38. so I would say yes it is. jmho.

Here are pics of the hitherto unseen WaffenAmt mark...thanks for that. I'd never noticed it before.

I submitted it together with some other items to emedals.com and they rejected it as fake. So I decided to ask on this forum.

Looks perfectly fine to me. I can't imagine what about it made them think it was a fake. Nobody's faking these as far as I know. There are postwar East and West German magazines out there, but those are generally pretty easy to tell apart from wartime ones.

The WaffenAmt (WaA135) indicates it's a Mauser-made magazine. It would have belonged to a 'byf'-marked pistol.

I guess they might have been stung a few times and don't trust their own judgment as to originality.

With the amount of fakes out there, you can't blame them. Sometimes caution crosses the line into paranoia, though.
