Pocket watch

Article about: Gents, I am posting this for a friend of mine who was given this watch by his Grand Father, I suspect it is WW1 but I am not sure. He wants to know if the number on the back is a service num

    Gents, I am posting this for a friend of mine who was given this watch by his Grand Father, I suspect it is WW1 but I am not sure. He wants to know if the number on the back is a service number? If so he intends to try and find the family and give them the watch. I do not think it is a Service number but probably a watch model number. Anyone any clues?

    GS / TP means 'General Service Time Piece'. The numbers could be a stock number
    or as you say, a model number. They are not a serviceman's number though.
    There were probably many makers supplying watches to the military.

    It appears to be in excellent condition, and may have a radium dial.
    ( The hands may glow at night, or low light situations )

    Do you know if it runs ?

    Yes mate, I believe the dials are radium, it looks like the paint they put on it and the watch is in perfect working order

    It's in great condition, but I know zero about it. I hope it's something special!
