    Default Pow engraved canteen

I recently got this engraved canteen on the "bay" for a nice price!
It appears to me to be a 1 litre canteen marked with the May to October 1945 history of the soldier / pow who owned it.

There is a heart engraved on the front with the initials EP at top, H. P. at either side and within is M.P. and Breslau which was a town in Silesia and German during the war ( now Wroclaw in Poland ) and some stylised flowers ( all the engraving is that 'jagged style' done with a knife point??

Then there are places & dates ...
    Lauban ( now Luban in Poland ) 8.5. - 20.5.45
    Neuhammer ( now Swietosow, Poland ) 21.5. - 5.9.45 and site of Stalag VIII-E
    Sagan ( now Zagan, Poland ) 6.9.45 - 20.10 45 and site of Stalag VIII-C
Antonienhutte ( now Byton, Poland ) 21.10.45 ( no dates after this )
I read that the Russians used the German camps they found in Poland to house German POWs

Then there are two inscriptions -
on the front lower is " In der Heimal gib ein wiedersehn" ( which I translate poorly as - 'in the homeland give to one other again'
and on the rear is "Obsie uns Lieben oder Hassen Einmal mussen sie unsdoch Entlassen" which may be ' love or hate us once they have to dismiss us"

If some German forum member could correct me that would be great!

I love it - I just wish I knew who he was??

    Cheers, Dan

I know it's 2 years later but I HAD to bump this back up - still no wiser to the translation but still love the sentiment of the defeated soldier longing for his home and the realisation that he will probably never see it again!

In der Heimat gib ein wiedersehn- I'm not good in Deutsch no in English, but I think it stands simply for "We'll see again at home". You have probably translated the other sentence correctly.

Hey guys, I'm bumping this one up again ( 5 1/2 years later ) in the hope someone may better my poor translation skills and cast some opinion on this quite unique object.....
Back to the top for the explanation...
    Thanks, Dan
