Default German or Prussian belt buckle?

    Hello everyone,
I have this belt buckle that seems to be made of copper. After some research I heard that Prussia made some copper ones before unification but am still not quite sure. Could this be a 1840s prussian model? The Gott Mit Uns piece on the front is not copper, just a little rusted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Daniel,

It is difficult to judge without holding it in your hands. In my opinion this is a Prussian belt buckle model 1895. The pad is probably made of heavily oxidized nickel silver and the belt lock is made of brass. A brass color can be seen in some places, but due to the strong oxidation, the striking red tinge of the large copper content is particularly noticeable. Maybe someone else can say more about it.

    Best regards
    Wolf

The design and especially the backside look correct. Based on the rusted condition hard to say for sure. Most likely good but in rather rough condition. Here is a thread for reference.

    Hello,
Thank you all for your replys. This information is certainly helpful, as I have very little knowledge of belt buckles of this era.

Wolf, thanks for the help and the information. Seems to be an 1895 buckle.

    Nice example René.

Weller, thank you for the link to your thread. Yours is certainly a little better condition than mine, but besides that they are very similar.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,
    Daniel
