German ww1 ammo bandolier

Hi everyone,

I have my eyes on this bandolier. Very rare and not seen much on the market. What do you think. I can't see any stamps. It looks legit however. I know that the seller sold another one in a little more battered state with stamps.

Hi Paul, what I can say is that for an item of temporary usage it is amazing to be found. I can see the cartridges ghosting shapes in many places. It seems that someone was injured while carrying the banlolier, there is an entry hole & blood stains surrendering it or is it perhaps rust stains from the clips? I noticed some green thread also near that location. Since this item was normally discharged after usage it did not have to be of high quality, strong enough to do it's job, carrying extra ammo clips temporary.
I'm not qualified to judge the authenticity of the bandolier so I'm giving only my first impression after looking at it. It seems a very nice historical item.

I also have one identical like this one, but with ammo still inside bandolier.
My father had a german ww1 ammo box full of these ~20 years back. He sold them to german at gunshow, but I took one for myself.

In Battle of Helsinki 1918, there is one good photo of these bandoliers in use.

These bandoliers were put into service around 1908 in the Imperial army. They were ideal to supply ammo to the frontline whenever there were fresh troops comming to the rear.

Bit late to this one, but it looks pretty good from here. The paper cloth material is as you would expect to see on later war examples and not something I would expect someone to go to the trouble of trying to recreate. Wear and patina look quite genuine.These are pretty scarce these days, so would be a good addition to any Imperial/WW1 German collection.

That looks great Paul! Well done. Now you need to hunt down some boots. And no need for legs as the boots should fit under the great coat. Love that feldmutze as well.

I’m still working on my display but might post it up before the end of the year.
