I don't see the reference to motorcyclist? It does imply Kraftfahrer, driver but this can mean driver of horses as well as motorised transport. The use of an initial for his first name is unusual but not uncommon. His surname is quite common and I've not found any evidence of him being wounded or killed during the war.

    Hi there.

I did find some information that I think relates to the soldier mentioned on the tag.

Georg Oertwig in the Bavaria, Germany, World War I Personnel Rosters, 1914-1918.

    Name: Georg Oertwig
    Birth Date: 17 September 1893
    Birth Place: Neustettin Stettin Preussen
    Combat Arm: Kraftfahr-Formationen
    Type of Unit: Kraftrad-Abteilungen
    Unit: bayer. Kraftrad-Abteilung 23
    Volume: 18688

Other records show that his full name was Richard Justus Georg Oertwig, but he was known as Georg. He married Anna Martha Frieda Kesse on the 7th of March 1921 and passed away on the 22nd of September 1942 due to heart problems.

    Kind regards,

    Will.

    Thanks for this information!

I am not familiar with German familty tree search oportunities, did they had a children or any relative who may live nowdays? I would happy to give the tag back to the relatives...

I'm reading Kraftrad Ersatz Abteilung but I can't make out the last part of the abbreviation. So, yes a motorcycle unit.

    Hi there.

I didn't see any information about children, only records concerning his military service, marriage and death.

    Kind regards,

    Will.
