Default Identifying an Entrenching tool and Carrier

    Hello all,

I just acquired this Vogel and Noot entrenching tool and was hoping to get an idea of the date and any other relevant info. I did not see a date on the tool but based on the maker I assume it’s an Austrian tool and it was listed as WW1 but I have not been able to confirm. The carrier is marked:

    Sattel U.
    Lederwarefabrik
    Bad Sachsa

I couldn’t find any info on the manufacturer but Bad Sachsa appears to be a small town in Germany. I know Germany supplied a lot to Austria Hungary so is it possible the carrier and tool are original to each other and correct for WW1? There is some initials scratched into the carrier but this could have been done at any time.

Also, is the green paint significant at all or likely done by someone post war? There is some initials scratched into the carrier but this could have been done at any time.

    Thanks!

The carrier was made for Bulgarian army during WW1.
There are different variants of this carrier to find.
It should carry the "Bleckmann 1915" shovel (still many to find in www).
Bleckmann branch in Mürzzuschlag Austria made the shovels and few different German workshops made the carriers.
All for export to Bulgaria only.

    The V&N shovel is a typical WW1 Austro-Hungarian M1910 model.
    They are never dated.
Paint is postwar from use by Romania or Bulgaria.
I would remove the paint in this case.

The green paint could be a hungarian postwar too.
