This is my inert 1915 German stielhandgranate made by AEG, the fuze marking denotes 5.5 seconds.

Has that grenade been painted black, and then rusted again. Or just oxidiced to black color?

These are quite scarce complete, so nice to have in the collection. I’ve got one but it’s one I’ve made by collecting the various bits and putting them together.

Thank you for your observations. I bought it this way in the early 90's. The black paint looks old, no filler inside the head and the metal being so thin there are pin sized holes in it now. The porcelain ball is inside the bottom recess.
