Hi Larry,I watched a Wittmann seminary and he said if you cannot take the washer off the bayonet Its fake.That s why I had thought its fake.

It's an authentic KS98, by Robert Klaas, probably late 1930's based on logo type used and alloy hilt.

this is a dress bayonet IN THE FORM of the KS98 (the correct KS98 is a different model). It is original but in worse condition.
The fire brigade's fascine knife (NOT a bayonet) has a different crossguard and no attachment device, as shown.

Denis your purchase of nine years ago was sound, although its had a tough life by the looks of it. Do you have a scabbard for it too?
