Naval Jack

This picture is a wartime picture from Kerch which shows a Naval Jack.
I thought the WHITE star with red background jack was from 1950 on?
Anybody have more information on this flag type?

Also is there any ability to know what sized flags (of this type for instance) were used on major vessels? I've got a couple of huge ones, and wonder what size were used on Submarines, etc.

I found on Wikipedia, that this type of Naval Jack served 1932—1964. Here is the link: File:Naval Jack of the Soviet Union.svg - Wikimedia Commons. I have one Soviet Navy Flag, from the 80's, that is about 2 meters wide. Most likely used on an destroyer?
