Thoughts on this 49th Infantry Regiment flag...

Article about: Don't know much about these flags, but it's not often you see a unit flag for Auction/sale. Flag has less then 15 scrolls, so that makes it pre 1956, but the flag looks newer than that to me

It looks cool but myself I always have huge doubts with regimental flags since these were treasured by their regiments and they usually ended up in either big or small museum collections or f.e. local displays at schools from the area these regiments came from. Been to several schools in Moscow and the Moscow area to visit such displays where local heroes and their regiments were honored. So I have seen a couple of those flags. But that said I never had one in hands and seeing them in museums and small exhibitions doesn't give experience to judge when seeing some pics online to authenticate these. But because I know how treasured these flags are I have serious doubts about their originality. Plus, the only one I have ever seen for sale in Russia was in the $ 20.000 price range so quite far from the estimated $ 200-300.

Many of these banners also ended up in German hands during the war and thus ended up in Germany.
This website shows photo material of Soviet banners captured by the German Wehrmacht; Знамёна частей РККА захваченые немцами и союзниками немцев во время ВОВ. - kv_bear — LiveJournal
Unfortunately I do not see a picture of the banner of the 49th Infantry Regiment of the NKVD Troops (49 стрелковый полк войск НКВД), but this one might have met the same fate.
What happened to these captured Soviet banners after 1945?

Is the offered banner real or fake? I am not an expert of Soviet banners, but how many fake Soviet regimental banners are there for sale?
If the offered banner is worth it to you, you could take a chance and let us know what you think about it.

Default similar Soviet flag- 132nd separate battalion of the NKVD escort troops

    Great link Asjemenou, fantastic photos.
I pulled these from the link, the 132nd separate battalion of the NKVD escort troops flag. Very similar in design.

Thanks for the update. That is not much to be honest. For a real one that is. For a fake, what I suspect, it is way too much.

From what I have heard from my friend who collects Russian General uniforms, he has one famous General uniform from museum.
Lot of these Museums did sell their stuff out. After USSR collapse, just for sake of money.
Stalins uniforms are in private collection in U.S. , you know.

The banner could definitely be a real one, what usually will determine this is of course the materials used but most importantly provenance. Banners such as these were indeed sold by museums and others during the 90s so it wouldn't be surprising.
