    Default Red Swastika Flag Center?

    Hello all,

This is my first time posting in this section of the forum. I don't really collect flags and banners, but I dug this up when I was looking through one of my tubs the other day. it SEEMS to be made of period fabric (no reaction to uv light anyway). The red of the swastika seems to be of the proper bright red shade that period flags were made of. There is a faint blue "fold" line around the design that measures 27cm (10.75 inches) in diameter.

My question is: what the heck did this go to?

My best bet would be foreign National Socialist movement. If I have to make a gamble: Latvia.

This could be the centre of the flag of the Canadian Nazi Party (The National Socialist Christian Party, or National Unity Party). The complete flag had a blue background...

Because you live in the US and found it there, it may be that the item was part of (or perhaps intended to be part of) a flag belonging to one of the US Nazi organizations that once existed during the Third Reich era in Germany. If memory serves I believe there were several, the largest being the German American Bund (also known as the Amerikadeutscher Volksbund or AV). While the AV used the German National Socialist Party flag (with a black swastika), they also used a unique US national AV flag that did not incorporate a swastika like the one shown (it was shaped and colored differently). But the AV youth groups, equivalents of the German HJ and BDM, additionally had unique unit flags that your piece may perhaps have been related to. A possibility...

Also a chance that the item may have been intended to be part of a flag or banner used by one of the religions that incorporates a swastika into it, having nothing to do with Nazism at all. Just a thought. I agree that the possibilities are endless, indeed. Perhaps we will never know for sure.
