Reich Service Flag 1933 – 1935
Reichsdienstflagge Knatterfahne
German President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Aldolf Hitler as Chancellor in January 30, 1933. Hitler immediately urged the dissolution of the Reichstag and the calling of new elections.
Federal elections were held in Germany on 5 March 1933, after the Nazi seizure of power in January.
The Reich Service Flag (Reichsdienstflagge) was adopted April 22, 1933 and stayed in service until Hitler announce the reformation of the Reichswehr into a new military force, the Wehrmacht, on October 15, 1935. At that time of the “unmasking”, the Reich Service Flag was changed to the swastika type flag.
While short lived, this the first service flag with the NSDAP in power.
This flag is a tall narrow flag (Knatterfahne) style popular with many government offices.
Period photo with balcony is from the 1933 Rally des Siegesin Numberg.
The flag is 4 ½ meters high by 1 meter wide.
The left side of the flag is mounted with a rope and a plated clip at each end.
