Rifle association an overview in pictures - Schützenbund
Every now and then we see a riffle association dagger or as the Germans say a Hirschfänger der Deutschen Schützenbund-Schützenverband.
When Hitler came to Power in 1933 he immediatly ordered that the Rifle Association would be reformed into an organisation that would be in service of the Nazi ideology.
Thats why we see an increase in 1933 of newly founded Winner award club chains, the so called "Königskette".
The winner of the annual club competition would win this ceremonial chain and was Marksman King of the club for 1 year.
I will show you 2 period uniforms with chains founded in 1933, 1 is a beautiful chain of the small caliber shooting club of the Railway of Ansbach.
Founded in 1933 with the winners and founders of 1933 up to 1943, a rare to find Kings chain.
The uniforms have bakelite buttons with the crossed rifles on it.
One had the Shooting Passport still in its inner pockets, clear to see that the targets were not simple targets but showed silhouets of persons, clearly to educate the members to shoot on human targets in the future.
The Tell hat was the favorite hunting hat for Herman Göring, his hunting buddies (but not all DJS members) wore them with a Reichs Kokarde on the side and large feathers.
They are marked on the inner sweatband eiter as "Schützenhut" of "Tell hut ges.gesch" and underneath the sweatband they have a paper tag that shows details about the hat showing the size model and colour and the catalogue number (5 digits)
By showing uniforms, daggers, chains, passports and a couple of awards-medals (who are all marked on the back with ges. gesch. or bears a year ) i hope this enlight this parts of history a bit, as it evolved during Hitlers period from a historical shooting club into a place to would have to deliver good marksman for the army.
Very nice collection and interesting read, so was the hunting association intertwined with the rifle association? Or something completely different
They are different associations, but the uniforms can be very similar as the hats were worn by both associations, only difference that the DJS had a Kokarde on the right and the riffle aasociation a pin with their club name or a stickpin or feather either what the club tradition demanded.
The hunting association was more like the private hunting club of Herman Göring.
A lot of Forestry members were also member of the Hunting associations, they got an Emblem on their sleeve.
I will show you an example of a Oberforstwart with DJS Emblem.
Also a picture showing Göring wearing a Tell hut.
The rifle association a national club to train marksmanship.
The honour gifts like cutlasses, hunting daggers before 1939 were not regulated, after 1938 they introduced the Schützen Hirschfänger with the white bakelite over wood grip with the crossed riffles.
This Alcoso one has a stamped trademark, and a batch of there daggers were produced at Dachau bearing the Paul Muller markings on the tang.
The hunting dagger thats has the Schützemkönig 1932 etch has the 1932 Eickhorn logo stamped on the reverse side on its ricasso ( triple oval logo)
