M44 belts?

When were M44 belts issued? Obviously I'd have said 1944 but I've got one that is dated 1943. Is that right?

please explain what makes a M44 belt ?

I only knows late war belts without adjustable tongue .

They came up 1942 and later with steel hook .

I'd call an M44 a belt with no adjustment leather. For some reason I thought they started to be issued in 1944, hence the name...

Probably more of a collectors term Lenny, from 1940 onwards they started to change the style of the belts, they started to use the steel hook, the grade of the leather used got worse and eventually they got rid of the leather tongue.
