A more intriguing photo of a Luftwaffe officer on skis. He is also wearing a M43 Pelzmütze and carrying a double-barreled shotgun. The written reverse puts this photo in Shatalovka, Russia on 13.XII.42. Not sure if it’s the one in Kursk Oblast or that in Belgorod Oblast.
Found that I, II, and III Gruppes of Kampfgeschwader 3 were flying Ju 88 from a Schatalowka at the end of 1942. The airfield list from ww2dk shows three different airfields at Schatalowka, -/East, and -/West all between Smolensk and Bryansk. Could this match with the photo or is it unrelated?
