It's definitely not a military headgear item, but something civilian.
I cannot positively identify it, though.
[With the multiple-colored stripe around the cap band, it does look a lot like a corps student's cap (some examples from the various student corps of Göttingen: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...UNC_-_1827.jpg ), but it is probably something else, as the man's clothing otherwise looks more like workclothes for a cook, butcher or something similiar.]

Thank you for clearing that up Adrian I was unshur I am curious if separate countries ie.. Britian and the commonwealth compared say to the USA and or Russia had different protocals concerning POW'S and the uniforms or dress that they were allowed to wear while in captivity I would assume so please correct me if I am wrong .
