Early I assume has the wrap has piped collars. Also the TK is stitched in place, which was done to stop them falling off.

Why is the piping odd?
It looks flat and more square than round. Compare it with the piping around the collar which is smooth and round.

The piping of the collar tabs looks very odd though

Indeed and more like late war tabs, an enigma. Also quite long and thin like assault gun tabs. You see some odd configurations being worn, not an issue. Perhaps when he got promoted he treated himself to some new tabs.

I see what you mean. It looks a bit like tress rather than felt piping.
I'll do a high res scan and see if we can deduce any more..
