A photograph of an abandoned KV-2 of the 1st Mechanized Corps left on the roadside outside of Ostrov. Taken early into Operation Barbarossa. The Russian tank corps led by Major General Mikhail Chernyavsky was tasked with holding the Stalin Line near Ostrov and the Velikaya River, but were almost entirely destroyed within weeks of encountering Georg-Hans Reinhardt’s XLI Panzer Corps.
A good number of photos of this exact tank exist online but often hard to find locations.
