Ruhe in Frieden Heinz , he was one of the first RKT i met at the OdR , a real Gentleman .
See more
An era will end... an eagle on the last flight!
We lower the flags and call for his last appeal...
We call the last oak leaves carrier of the German Army, we call the captain of the wehrmacht, the captain of the bundeswehr, we call the winner in 64 battles over enemy bombers, we call the teacher of the post war... we call the soldier Heinz Rökker

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Generaloberst Gunther von Kluge is perhaps best known for his "involvement" (he didn't actually do anything) in the July 20 Plot against Adolf Hitler. Von Kluge met with the conspirators, but when it came to him gathering support within the army, he did not do so. Hitler saw that he was mentioned a few times in documents drafted by the conspirators and asked von Kluge to come see him. Von Kluge, thinking (rightly) that Hitler wanted to see him about his role in the conspiracy, committed suicide (I've heard some say he was murdered) by taking cyanide.
