The eagle on the cap appears to be a breast eagle,maybe it was a late war issue thing?

I was so wearing shoes!That was me and a cap I sold back in 1963. That was the way it was when I purchased it and I was never sure if it was correct. There was only the eagle on it and no national colors and I thought it might have been a late war expedient.

Ah, now I see!

Caps were always issued with a cockade and smaller eagle. I guess this was a replacement eagle.

An eagle of that size would not have been applied to the cap as new.

The Volkssturm simply wore whatever they could find. No special cap was made for them.
