What's going on in this photo?! Girl holding a Gewehr 98 in WW2?!

My friend found this floating around the internet and doesn't know where it came from, but looking at it just gives me more questions than answers! It clearly seems to be a Gewehr 98, and it looks like the 40's to me, but as far as I understood only the police and some of Hitler's bodyguards retained the full length Gewehrs, so she stole it from a cop or an SS guy? Is that a French soldier in the background? Any explanations are very welcome!

Looks like a British soldier in the background, she is probably from the French Resistance, the geweher 98 wasn't only used by cops and Hitler's bodyguards, some were also used in the army, but god knows where she got it from(Maybe left behind during WWI?).
