The case is dated August 6th 1941. As far as I know, on that date the battle of Kiev had not finished yet and the battle of Rostov-on-Don had not started yet. In my view, the date and name could be real and the rest is humbug added later.

Looks like classic electro pencil engraving onto an old case. I would pass on it myself.

Yes sadly another cig case engraved to make it look like something it isn't ..
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )
1st July 1916
Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Apart from mentioning a battle that had not taken place yet, another issue I see is the use of the post WW2 Ukrainian name of Ternopil for the city until then known as Tarnopol.

oops, someone didn't do their homework. Old watches, cigarettle cases, spirit flasks, anything old from the early 20th century and someone will put a fake inscription on it to make a quick buck.
