The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
Very cool I like it.

I love stuff like this, thanks for sharing.
I also like nice trench art. I got this item from Germany, it belonged to recently passed away German veteran who used it all his long life. Strange that his family sold it almost for nothing, many Germans do not still want to own anything that reminds them WWII.
very nice piece of a cigarette case...i like it![]()
I got these 2 nice trench art items recently from Germany. Both belonged to the same man. He was in Russian front and was probably captured in Latvia 1944. For me these items seem more like POW-art but who knows. Smaller box still smells like ashtry, maybe it was used to keep joints during the lack of tobacco. The cigar case is very well made and there is a picture glued inside. Maybe it is picture of a girlfriend or just a nice young lady? Who knows. Anyway, it this picture offends anybody, please just delete it.
