Our tank crewmen have captured a battle worn Tiger and are driving it North along the Rauray to Fontenay road.

This Tiger was the mount of by SS Unterscharführer Willi Otterbein.

This tank was from Schwere SS Panzer Abteilung 101.

    Geat historical and evocative images

Those blokes look so calm and relaxed yet very pleased (justifiably) with their trophy!

As a matter of interest The Sherwood Rangers were what is known in British Army nomenclature as a Yeomanry Regiment which is the mounted (armoured) equivalent of the Volunteer Force (WWI) of the Infantry, later the Territorial Force.

It is hard to see in these images but their cap badge during WWII was exactly the same design as that of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry but about two thirds size and in brass rather than white metal.

Here is the Sherwood's badge compared to the Ox & Bucks LI.

I wonder who is driving it?, as it ain't the chap with his head out of the hull...

Must be two of them?, one sitting down in the drivers chair and the chap with his head sticking out, giving him directions..

Interesting how one chap has a German mess tin too.

Yep I noticed that . In the context I doubt he even considered the item itself. It was just a handy container that suited his purpose at that moment.
Funny how we now look at it completely differently and wish we were time travellers to go back and gather up the goodies we want for our collections!

The video shows Tiger 114 which was commanded by Rolf Mobius during the battle and was abandoned after its main armament jammed.

It was sent back to England and then we "lost it"...

The link takes you to another stream of videos, the Russo-Ukraine conflict & tank & tracked vehicle warfare. One video in particular of chain gun use on Russians is brutal.

I thought that the drivers position of a Tiger, and that of many other tanks, had a seat that was adjustable up and down.

    cheers
