    Default 1941 SSh39 helmet?

    Hello there,

Ive been offered a possible war time era 1941 SSh39 helmet by a coworker of mine.
Since I only collect soviet militaria from the soviet afghan war, im not quite familiar with the early russian steel helmets.
Going by the stamp this example was manufactored in 1941 by the red october plant in stalingrad and is a size 2.
As you can see by the pictures both the paint and the liner are in good condition, however the chinstrap is missing.
My question is if this helmet is even an authentic WWII example? Ive researched a bit in the last days and Ive since found out that these helmets are often "faked" (obvious fakes like the czech vz 53 helmet aside), which isnt too hard considering that the stamps are ink based and the soviet red star on the front is often retrofitted to mark up its value for collectors.

I will add a picture of an authentic helmet liner.

The helmet does not give me a good feeling.
The stenciled outline soviet star is different, this in combination with a 1941 dated manufacturing stamp.

100% fake. The 1938 pattern stencil is incorrect, it never looked like that. Regardless, stencils were never applied to any of the SSh series helmets past September of 1940. Stamp and liner are crude fakes, bad pattern and bad stamp. Real SSh-39 that underwent an attempted restoration, leaving nothing but the shell original to the helmet.

Final verdict: Even though the helmet has some features that typically aren't on restored SSh-39s, everything is a restoration besides the shell.
